Child Safety

Our Commitment to Child Safety

Malvern Memorial Kindergarten

At Malvern Memorial Kindergarten, children’s safety and wellbeing come first. We want every child to feel safe, happy, confident and empowered to be themselves.

We support and respect all children, families, staff, volunteers and community members. We are committed to the safety, participation and empowerment of all children, including those who may be more vulnerable due to culture, additional needs, diverse abilities, identity or life circumstances.

Cultural Safety and Inclusion

At Malvern Memorial Kindergarten, we recognise and respect Aboriginal cultures and their unique place in the heritage and future of Victoria. We are committed to creating a culturally safe environment where Aboriginal children and families feel respected, valued and able to express their identity.

We are equally committed to the cultural safety of children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to providing a safe, inclusive environment for children with additional needs and diverse abilities.

Zero Tolerance for Child Abuse

Malvern Memorial Kindergarten has zero tolerance of child abuse. All allegations, disclosures and safety concerns are treated with the highest level of seriousness and responded to consistently with our Child Safe Policies, procedures and Code of Conduct.

We have a legal and moral obligation to contact authorities when we are concerned about a child’s safety or wellbeing, and we follow these obligations rigorously.

Empowering Children

We strongly believe in empowering children to understand their rights, develop body safety knowledge, and speak up if they feel unsafe. We take pride in building strong, secure relationships with children and regularly engage in conversations to educate the children.

Our educators embed protective behaviours, consent language and emotional literacy into everyday practice to help children build confidence, agency and resilience.

Preventing and Reducing Risk

Malvern Memorial Kindergarten is committed to preventing child abuse by identifying risks early and removing or reducing them wherever possible. We maintain strong human resources and recruitment practices to ensure all staff and volunteers share our commitment to child safety.

All educators, staff, Committee of Management members and volunteers receive regular training and education on child safety, child abuse risks, and their responsibilities under the Child Safe Standards.

Everyone working or volunteering at Malvern Memorial Kindergarten must agree to abide by our Code of Conduct, which outlines the standards of behaviour required when working with children.

  • Child Safe Environment Wellbeing Policy

  • Code of Conduct

  • Procedures for responding to and reporting child safety concerns
